east rosebud

I was in Luther for thanksgiving, visiting the in-laws and taking in the Absaroka-Beartooths. Friday was a great day, my friend Damon and I stole away for the afternoon from family activities and took an awesome trip up into the East Rusebud drainage to take some snaps and get outside. I went up to my favorite bridge and swimming hole on then headed up towards Rosebud Lake. Here are some pics from the lake, river, and canyon. It was cccccold and windy. This is the second upload of photos from this area.

Absynth w/o Leaves

Hello, strangers. I've been unable to post anything for almost two months...more crazy computer woes. Still, I've been taking a lot of pictures and have picked a few to share. There were several evenings spent with Jay, chasing the moon with cameras blazing. I'll have to post a few more from the Oktoberfestentosen Partoi at ol' Pine Creek, which was good fun again this year.

I hope Thanksgiving found each of you well. I have to chuckle as I go down the list of blog members - you're all my best of friends from never and forever. There are a few names missing, but we have 10 states and 4 countries represented between us and I want to thank you all for the great participation. To be imprecise, we have nearly 30 members and almost 100 posts in just over 4 months, averaging slightly under 1 post per day for a total image count I'd guess to be somewhere right around 500-600+. whoa

Ahoy,
CR

Last Ride

Over the weekend I joined my friend Storrs and his father, Storrs, to retrieve some gear from Storrs Sr's. hunting camp in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness area. We rode through four miles of snow covered timber before reaching camp at 8400 feet. With tents and gear buried under three feet of wet snow we loaded what we could get to and rode out, the last hour of which was spent riding through the timber under a full moon. Amazing. Thanks Storrs! dg

Snow In The Beartooths

Winter is coming in hot this year. There was a nice snow storm Friday night, I was in the Beartooths near Luther. I got out in the early morning to catch a few shots of the heavy wet snow in an Aspen grove near Red Lodge Creek, then hit the road up by the East Rosebud River. Right away I saw 3 golden eagles circling. There were rumours of a neighbors dog gone missing, supposedly an Eagle got him. I thought that was kind of funny. I saw many bald and golden eagles, and at least 2 species of hawks, and even a paragrin falcon. There are a lot of good eats to be had from all of the hunters. The birds come from all around to feast on deer carcuses and road kill. Anyways, here are some pics I took while tooling around.
