at least there's no snow

well, here are some shots of lost maples state park here in the hill country. it is a little tiny microclimate where some family members of maple trees from before the last two ice ages are still standing. it's pretty amazing, if not visually, but scientifically (can't really hold a candle to mt, now can it?). texas is really interesting, geologically, if there's one thing we have, it's rocks. where i live used to be the coastline, so there are a lot of strange marine fossils around, though we're now 150 miles from the gulf. that's my cute little mom looking at rocks and flowers.

also included is a shot of me dressed up like an "east austin overdressed feminist society" member. we started a gang of stiletto-wearing bicycle riders, basically a bunch of chicks that like to dress up and ride bikes from bar to bar. it's pretty great. we get together about once and month and let 'er ride.

Wk'ender

This weekend was good. Birds. Beer. Stuff.

  • Golden eagles are huge, and by huge I mean totally massive. Really.

  • Crows are playful when there's dead stuff and I drive by.

  • Hotel rooms with 3 queen beds in them are crazy.

    Frosty times...

I spent the holiday weekend in Stevensville, where there had been a week of thick fog. This generated some amazing, hoary frost all over everything. I shot these on Thanksgiving Day, with visions of cranberry sauce in my head.
