Happy Birthday

Shiloh, the dog, turned 13 this week.  For a little present, yesterday I took him up to Sacajawea Peak outside of Bozeman.  The road in was still gated, about 2 miles below the normal Fairy Lake campground area.  The extra distance made for a great addition to an already great hike.  Alas, I think its getting to be too much for the old boy.  I fear his big hiking days are over, he's really starting to struggle on some of the steeper slopes, especially slopes with snow.  Kind of a shame really, he has the enthusiasm and desire, but his legs are letting him down.  I can't even begin to imagine how many miles Shiloh has seen on his little legs?
Happy Birthday Shiloh!

Thompson Lake 6/12/12

Cutthroat Trout
Made the annual hike up to Thompson Lake yesterday.  My unofficial start of the hiking season begins with a trip to Thompson Lake.  The trail is in good shape.  Just a little bit of snow left in some spots along with some flowing water down the trail, all to be expected.  It was a bit muddy but we had some rain the day before, that should dry up quickly. There was some new deadfall over the trail to contend with also.  Of course the fishing this time of year is almost ridiculous.  Just about any bead head nymph worked well. I used Hares Ears and Prince Nymphs and caught many trout in the 10 to 13 inch range.  Perfect weather, 60's and mostly sunny made for and enjoyable day.
