Chill

Enjoyed some time on the frozen Yellowstone this afternoon. The ice jam has begun to break up, with a small channel down the middle. Light, ice, moon.

Eagle Roost

Shields Valley, just north of Livingston, has become a raptor playground. It's not uncommon to see 30-40 eagles in a 15 mile stretch. Snapped this pic off the other day while out with Jay, crisp and cold and beautiful.

New 'Label' option

As you will have noticed, upgrading blogger.com versions did not change the visual exterior, or template, of our blog...except for the great new header shot from Jay! On the inside, though, are some extra features designed to make our blog more visible to the outside world. The addition of Labels, 'tags' to the rest of the world, allow our posts to be logged by services that do as much: Technorati, Keotag, TagFetch, etc.

I've just discovered another cool Web 2.0 service, outside.in, that uses ZIP code tags for 'neighborhood' social bookmarking. If you enter in the zip code 59047 on their site, you'll see Livingston, MT and all of the Livingston Photo Society blog entries. Here, give it a try, I did all the 'work' for you. So, to contribute further, simply add the ZIP code for wherever it is that you are posting from as a Label in the 'Create Post' window in blogger and it'll link your posts to both your location and 59047...pretty cool.

Login blues...

It seems some people are having a difficult time with setting up their account under the new digs. Here's what you need to do:

1. visit blogger.com
2. log in to "old blogger" with your current user/pass info
3. it'll show you your dashboard with our blog, telling you it's been switched
4. it asks you if you want to upgrade your account
5. select this option and follow the steps...creating Google account
6. when you have confirmed the account, you'll now want to log in using "new blogger"

Hope that helps. If anyone has questions or would like to contribute info for those switching over, please do so. Thank you!

Brand spankin...

Just wanted everyone to know the blog has been switched to the newer version. Logging on will now require a Google account, so PLEASE let me know if you have troubles getting signed on. There are additional features, some of them back end, some of them for the user. Although Blogger calls them "Labels", we can now Tag our posts, i.e. B+W, Utah, MT, Snow, whatever... In the "Labels" section of the "Create Post" console (bottom-right corner), please put your user name in as a tag. This will allow us to be able to click that tag and see all of that contributors submissions....pretty cool.

You will notice the number of contributors on the site has gone from 40+ to only 4. This is because you have to switch your account over before you show up. Also, in the post 'comments' pop-up, you will notice a slight change including text verification. This allows folks who aren't blog members to post comments, while the text verification keeps out bots that post spam comments to phishing sites and whatnot.

I'm also considering switching up the template a bit. This will probably take place over the next week or so. Please add comments to let me know if you like the direction we're going. I want this to be an inclusive process, one where you can have some input into the creation of things here on the blog.

Also, you will notice the URL is now LivingstonPhotoSociety.com. You can use the old address, but http://www.livingstonphotosociety.com is the default...hooray! It's been a long time 'in the making', but we're finally at our own home. To bad we didn't build our own 'house'...

Last, but not least, I apologize to Doolittle for 'trumping' his amazing photo post with this technical garble.

Thanks to all. Sign up for the new blogger and get your photo on...

New vs. New

Greetings from Montana! It's -15 degrees outside, -33 windchill.
I like my beard, I love my beard, I am my beard...

I've made the decision to switch to the new version of Blogger.com, which will take place Sunday evening. Signing up for a Google account will be required, but it's free and easy...just like the '60s. I'll update you more later, but we'll have some new features and better tracking abilities internally. I appreciate everyone who has been a part of the LivPhotSoc, those who have given feedback, those who've just come to view the site.

Ahoy!

New vs. Old

It's been quite some time since I've posted. Other than the technical difficulties, well, you could say I've been having some technical difficulties. Ah, redundency...

Blogger.com, which has been our host here for the past 1.5 years, has recently undergone some changes. I'm not sure how many of you know, but a new version of Blogger is out and my thoughts are that we should be upgrading. There are a few conditions, so to speak, but I think they will be in the interest of our blog and its members. One of these conditions is that all blog members must have a G-mail/Google account...

So, in the interest of feedback, I'd like to hear what members have to say. If you would like a more 'involved' answer as to what the changes will include, please visit the following: Update Tour
(Update: I noticed that this tour is pretty weak. The new blogger has additional changes not listed in the provided 5-frame tour. I'll post or link to those additional upgrades over the weekend.)

I'd appreciate comments or e-mails regarding the issue...as I might decide not to switch over just yet if it happens to be in your best interest. If I don't get any feedback, I will be updating the site on Jan. 12th.

-----

I've been going back through my shots from Utah in October and wanted to share another pile. Maybe it'll make up for having not posted in 2 months...

Ahoy,
