Post:poned

Friday has come and gone and I've not sent out the registration link for the new site, as I said I would. Been very busy, and now the holiday weekend. Everyone enjoy your time off...which means shut down your computer, go outside and take some photos. :-)

I'll get things rollin' again on Monday.

Whaling???

So, I apologize in advance to anyone that is offended by the fact that I just got back from visiting an Inupiat whaling camp on the frozen Arctic Ocean. They've been doing this for thousands of years, so I figure they have a "grandfathered" right to keep doing so. The pictures aren't great (the day was pretty overcast), but the experience was sure interesting.

Fiddlehead Fest in Little Rhody

Be careful......
these just appear to be fiddleheads.

They're really spies, disguised as fiddleheads. They tap your phones, read your mail, even invade your dreams...

Updates, yo

Jay and I got the test site up and running this weekend. It still needs some work, but we're close. To this end, I'm not going to worry so much about fixing little odds and ends here on LivPhotSoc quite yet. The Links section - I'll get to it soon, sorry. Must. Focus. On. New site.

This coming Friday, May 26th, I'll be sending out an e-mail to all the current LivPhotSoc members and a few others who are interested in joining. This e-mail will include a link to the easiest sign-up page ever created by man, and it just happens to make you a member of LivingstonPhotoSociety.com, also. Until then, hang tight.

Here's a shot Gabe pointed out after a long day of riding motorcycles. It was a ton of fun, and I didn't even break the bike...well, not entirely.

I snapped the top two just to see what it looks like from inside a concrete beam form. The third is a pic of a concrete pump truck. After over twenty years in construction it never stops amazing me just what it takes for us to accomplish our work. It's a nice change of pace to be building in the middle of a 10,000 acre State of Texas property as I'm usually building in Dallas.

Ah'hua!!

I was able to retrieve the formatting for our archive pages back from the fires of Erebus' firm, blog-hating grasp. Hehe...I tricked blogger's interface. I think I'll post the workaround in their forum for others.

I'll update the Links tomorrow.
Peace.

E3 2006

So I got a chance to go to the biggest video game convention on the planet. What a great time I had and I met some great people. Even though I ran into some technical difficulties I was still able to enjoy myself and get a few great moments. Check them all out at the links provided.

Turkey Vulture Spread

I was driving down Swinley Road about 3 weeks ago and got up under this Turkey Vulture. It was a big beast. I was trying to scare it out of the tree so it would take off and I'd snap a shot, but it just sat there and stared at me. I think it was waiting for me to kill over so he could feast on my eyeballs. You can tell that those things aren't intimidated by humans. It finally jumped off the branch and I got a cool spread shot of it.

B(l)oog(g)er.com

For some unknown reason, all of the .css coding for the LivPhotSoc was literally mulched into near-text only formating last night...if you can call it formatting. I've recreated the main page, but it's still buggy. If you want to see the real nightmare, click on a link for any of the previously archived months. And because of the way blogger works, I have no access to the server where the .css is stored for our archives...so there's no way to fix them.

Ersh.

As a result of all this nonsense, it's likely that we'll be moving to our new site earlier than anticipated. Until yesterday, the only hurdle in making the move was that everyone would have to re-register in order to have unique passwords. If people want me to register them each with a different, but generic password, I will, but it will be each member's responsiblity to change the pass upon first login. Anyone have an opinion either way?

Speaking of our new home, the new 'members area' will have a fairly similar layout to the way it is now with blogger, except with tons of new features. How you upload images will change slightly, which I'll explain in detail at a later date. The new interface is more stable and allows you to upload a ton of images all at once...no more fighting with that mess.

Arrrgh!!

Something happened to the layout last evening, not sure why. It'll have to wait until tonight... Sorry, folks.

Tonights Sky

Decided to try my hand at photographing tonights storm rolling in.

Bloomsday, WA

Another big post by Code Red.

Being a smoker, the last place you'd think to find me would be the Bloomsday 12K race in Spokompton, WA. It was my first race, but I wasn't really racing anyone. I walked it solo in a sea of nearly 50,000 people. You'll see a few shots of my friends - the one with the smoke in his mouth, Paul, completed the 7.46 mile run in 60:00:35...1 hour and 16 minutes before I did. The smoke is fake, but it's become a tradition of his to take it to races...people love that thing. heh All of my buddies ran it in 1.5 hrs or less...nice work.

In other pictures you'll see clothes hanging from the trees...this is apparently a Bloomsday tradition, and a very strange thing to see. I assume all of the clothes go to charity.

Also, I've chucked in a few art shots. And nothing is in chronological order.

All in all, it's was pretty inspiring. Good times with great friends doing something I never dreamed...and enjoying it.
